Why Data Privacy Matters in EdTech

The LearnVault Team5 min read

Education technology handles some of the most sensitive data there is: who is learning what, how well they're doing, and recordings of real people. Privacy isn't a feature here, it's a baseline responsibility.

Questions to ask any platform

  • Where is my data stored, and who can access it?
  • Is data isolated between organisations, or pooled together?
  • Is my content used to train shared AI models?
  • Can I export or delete my data on demand?

What good looks like

Strong platforms isolate every organisation's data completely, store recordings in storage the customer controls, and ground AI strictly in each user's own material rather than pooling it. Encryption in transit and short-lived authentication tokens should be table stakes.

How LearnVault approaches it

Each organisation is a separate tenant with its own private subdomain. Recordings live in the organisation's own Google Drive, and the AI tutor only ever answers from a student's own transcripts, never a shared model trained on everyone's data.
